Wangechi
Mutu studied at Yale University School of Art in New Haven and
graduated with an MFA in 2000. Mutu has since enjoyed numerous solo
exhibitions, for example, at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke
University in Durham, Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York, Musee d’art
contemporain de Montreal, Staatliche
Kunsthalle Baden Baden, the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin, WIELS
Contemporary
Art Center in Brussels, and Kunsthalle Vienna. In addition to various
group exhibitions, such as “Making & Unmaking” at the Camden
Art Centre, London; “L’image volee” at the Fondazione Prada,
Milan; and “The Divine Comedy: Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell
Revisited by Contemporary African Artists” at the National Museum
of African Art, Smithsonian Institute, Washington DC, Mutu’s work
has also been exhibited at diverse biennials, including the 5th
Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (2013) and the 56th
Venice Biennale “All the World’s Futures” (2015).
