On the occasion of the exhibition "Felix Brenner, Andreas Maus, Kar Hang Mui. euward8", Andreas Maus has exclusively provided Haus der Kunst with a series of five original drawings.
The main themes in his work are Nazi crimes, bombings, violence and human suffering. His ongoing preoccupation with these themes also leads to a series of abstract drawings that counterbalance Andreas Maus's stirring examination of the events of German history. The grid-like patterned drawings are emotional and subjective.
For Andreas Maus, working on these sheets is personal relief as well as the quintessence of creative freedom.
Andreas Maus (born 1964 in Cologne) lives in Pulheim near Cologne. He has been working at Kunsthaus KAT 18 in Cologne since 2008. He has taken part in numerous group exhibitions, including at the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, Kolumba Kunstmuseum Cologne and Museum Kampa, Prague. In 2021, he was awarded the first prize of euward, the European Art Prize for Painting and Graphic Arts in the context of mental disability.
