Press Release

The Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung has decided to continue its substantial funding of the Haus der Kunst. For the next three years, the foundation has pledged an annual sum in the mid-six-figure range to the Munich museum. The Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung has been the main sponsor of the Haus der Kunst since 2016. The continuation of this vital grant enables the public museum under the stewardship of its new director, Andrea Lissoni, to pursue its ambitious programming with art exhibitions and events into the future. In a statement, Dr. Eva-Maria Fahrner-Tutsek, Chair of the Board of the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung, said: “We see contemporary art and the aesthetic and critical thought processes it conveys as an extremely exciting and sensitive seismograph of the current state of the world. Art is essential for a vibrant, enlightened society that is ready to embrace the future. The Haus der Kunst shares our vision of contemporary art and, as an innovative institution with an international reputation, is an ideal partner for our goals.” The Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung is a non-profit foundation based in Munich that supports art and science. It was established in December 2000 by Alexander Tutsek and Dr. Eva-Maria Fahrner-Tutsek in recognition of their part in bolstering the cultural foundations of our society. In its exhibition programming and international collecting activities, the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung purposefully focuses on contemporary photography and contemporary sculpture and installation work in the medium of glass. In a parallel funding area, the foundation is also active in supporting major research projects in engineering and related sciences. With its program of special exhibitions and accompanying talks and events, the foundation seeks to address a wide audience. It sees itself as a platform for interdisciplinary discussion and the exchange of ideas. The foundation is headquartered in an Art Nouveau villa in the Munich district of Schwabing, which also serves as a venue for temporary exhibitions. On 12 November 2021 the Alexander Tutsek-Stiftung opened a second location – the BlackBox – situated in Parkstadt Schwabing, in North Munich. Parkstadt is the latest urban development in the Bavarian capital. In addition to being the site of 1,500 apartments and two large hotels, it is also the location of the Munich offices of several major multinational companies such as Amazon, IBM Watson, Swiss Life, General Electric, and Microsoft. The BlackBox’s expansive gallery now provides additional room for displays of large-format photographic works and whole-room sculptural installations in the heart of Parkstadt Schwabing.
