This edition of TUNE orbits around the work of the prolific percussionist Valentina Magaletti, known for both her diverse collaborations and distinctive solo work. On Friday evening, Haus der Kunst presents Estradas by Nídia and Valentina, an exciting new collaboration between Magaletti and the Afro-Portuguese electronic producer and DJ, and long-term affiliate of Lisbon’s Príncipe label. On Saturday evening London trio Moin, composed of Joe Andrews and Tom Halsted of the band Raime, and Valentina Magaletti, will perform material from their latest album You Never End and other releases. They will be joined by a fourth live member Allen Wootton. In addition to the two concerts, there will be an artist talk with Valentina Magaletti on Saturday.
Italy-born, and London based, Valentina is a drummer and multi-instrumentalist and has described her compositions before as an unfolding narrative, with stories that eschew spoken language in favour of rhythm, pulse, and vibration. Her versatile technique, which can incorporate anything from vibes and marimba to contact microphones and found objects, results in a style that is forever evolving. She has also worked on a wide range of collaborations, moving easily between alternative and mainstream worlds of music, with artists Thurston Moore, Philip Selway (Radiohead), Deb Googe (My Bloody Valentine), Mica Levi and Nicholas Jaar to name just a few.
Participation is free and no registration is required.
