Artist Paul Valentin and curator Teresa Retzer will lead a tour through the exhibition Lost Arc, focusing on the technical aspects of the artwork and providing in-depth discussions on selected objects within the fictional archive.

Lost Arc is an installation by the artist Paul Valentin (born in 1990 in Munich). A digital print depicts a distorted motif of a mysterious archive that reveals forgotten objects and untold stories. The real-time footage on the screen is sourced from the museum’s surveillance camera stationed at the entrance, which also decrypts the distorted wallpaper. This interactive approach provides visitors with an immersive experience that not only highlights these overlooked objects but also offers a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes of the museum. In a subtle way, the objects tell from the history of Haus der Kunst München and refer to elements that the artist has used for past works.

Paul Valentin's artistic practice is characterised by a multifaceted approach, encompassing a variety of media including video, animation, installation, sculpture, and sound. His work delves into complex paradoxes, and themes of metaphysics, such as the elusive concept of truth, the enigmatic nature of nothingness, and the fundamental essence of the world. He is predominantly active in the realm of computer generated video art and his oeuvre draws inspiration from a diverse range of sources, including the literature of surrealism, romanticism, and magic realism, as well as contemporary philosophy.
