Listening Session Jesse Owens‘ Record Collection with DJ Jay Scarlett.

In the Archive Gallery, Theaster Gates will exhibit the record collection of athlete and music lover Jesse Owens, whose record collection includes over 1.800 iconic soul, blues, jazz and funk albums from the 1950s-80s. Jesse Owens grew up in times of strict racial segregation in the United States. At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, this exceptional athlete won several gold medals under the watchful eye of Adolf Hitler.

During the listening session DJ Jay Scarlett will present a selection of records from Owens' collection to make them available to the public.

Following the listening session with DJ Jay Scarlett the summer open air cinema BLACKNESS & CINEMA will take place on the terrace of Haus der Kunst in the context of the exhibition "Theaster Gates. Black Chapel".
