Event overview

Listening Session Jesse Owens‘ Record Collection with Peter Adjaye (Music for Architecture) as part of the exhibition opening of "Interiorities"

As part of the exhibition "Theaster Gates. Black Chapel", Theaster Gates exhibits the record collection of athlete and music lover Jesse Owens, whose record collection includes over 1.800 iconic soul, blues, jazz and funk albums from the 1950s-80s, in the Archive Gallery at Haus der Kunst. Jesse Owens grew up in times of strict racial segregation in the United States. At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, this exceptional athlete won several gold medals under the watchful eye of Adolf Hitler.

During the exhibition's duration, various DJs and music experts will present their selection of records from the collection in listening sessions to make them available to the public.
