Listening Session Jesse Owens‘ Record Collection with DJ Jay Scarlett.
In the Archive Gallery, Theaster Gates will exhibit the record collection of athlete and music lover Jesse Owens, whose record collection includes over 1.800 iconic soul, blues, jazz and funk albums from the 1950s-80s. Jesse Owens grew up in times of strict racial segregation in the United States. At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936, this exceptional athlete won several gold medals under the watchful eye of Adolf Hitler.
During the exhibition's duration, various DJs and music experts will present their selection of records from the collection in listening sessions to make them available to the public. The first event will be performed by DJ Jay Scarlett on the opening weekend.
