Event overview

The curatorial fellow Elena Setzer guides you through the exhibition "Sweat", providing first-hand information and interesting insights into her work.

The thirty artistic voices gathered here evolved in different places, at different times, and under different social pressures and conditions. The respective experiences of exclusion and oppression – with regard to culture, gender, origin, social class, and sexuality – are not weighed or delimited against each other. Rather, “Sweat” aims to draw attention to the complexity of different realities and to establish sensory approaches to current social discourses. The artistic positions range from presentday to pioneering works from the 1970s and ‘80s that mobilised feminist and postcolonial movements in art and society, opening up historical perspectives on artistic languages that are embedded in forms of radical social emancipation.
