Event overview

For an hour you may do what is normally prohibited in the museum: open display cases, pick up and peruse exhibits. For the current exhibition in the Archive Gallery “Archives in Residence: AAP Archive Artist Publications” we break with the usual conventions and invite you to browse and read the exhibited publications. Hubert Kretschmer, founder of Archiv Künstlerpublikationen, and Sabine Brantl, curator of the exhibition, will provide insight into the exhibits.

Since 1980, the publisher, artist and art educator Hubert Kretschmer has been collecting and archiving artists’ publications. His archive in Munich’s Türkenstraße now contains 50,000 items of various media by artists from 76 countries.

From October 2018 to June 2019, the Archive Artist Publications will be on view in the exhibition “Archives in Residence” in Haus der Kunst’s Archive Gallery. The exhibition marks the beginning of a series of presentations featuring independent archives and the exploration of questions about the relationship between archive, history and their representation.
