Slauson Malone 1 is the musical and performance project of Los Angeles multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and visual artist Jasper Marsalis. SM1 explores the ways in which popular music comes into contact with performance art. His new album “Excelsior” (Warp Records) follows the critically acclaimed ‘A Quiet Farewell, 2016-2018 (Crater Speak)’ and 2020’s “Vergangenheitsbewältigung (Crater Speak)” which considered the simultaneous inaccessibility and continuous presence of the past.

8 pm | Slauson Malone 1: The Stone Breakers. Concert
The mixture of personal and universal themes is a core motif of Marsalis’ night one performance entitled Stone Breakers. With an ensemble, Marsalis borrows the psychological technique of exposure therapy to blur or even disintegrate the line between spectacle and spectator, punctuating musical pieces with unexpected speech and noise. For this performance, Slauson Malone 1 will be accompanied by long-time collaborator and cellist Nicholas Wetherell, and two local musicians Theresa Loibl and Florian Riedl.
Theresa Loibl is a versatile multi-instrumentalist from Munich who regularly performs as a soloist and in ensembles. She is proficient in various wind instruments, including tuba, bass clarinet, clarinet, and saxophone, and plays in diverse musical genres.
Florian Riedl is a musician and composer from Munich. He has written numerous contributions for television and cinema, as well as developed channel logos and show openers. He has released his own projects and albums and collaborated with various bands. As a multi-instrumentalist, he is skilled in saxophone, bass clarinet, clarinet, and flutes, covering different musical styles.
