To mark the publication of Jim C. Nedd's debut monograph Remembering Songs, TUNE invites the artist to curate a live programme that intimately connects with the book’s themes.
Nedd’s work blurs the line between fiction and documentary photography, drawing inspiration from geography, identity, and popular culture. Influenced by memories and Vallenato music’s storytelling, he crafts images that weave personal narratives with collective memory, utilising oral archives to capture stories and experiences.
On both evenings, a newly commissioned composition will be performed that blends accordion, guitar, and live poetry, showcasing genres from the Colombian-Caribbean region. Nedd will perform with electronic instruments, joined by Carlos Russo on Accordion and Peruvian Cajon, Hansel Castro on Guitar, and Flor Barcenas Feria with live poetry. On Friday, the event will feature a reading by Dr. Beatriz E. Balanta, and on Saturday, a listening session by artist and curator, Edna Martinez.
New video works by the artist, produced in his native city, Valledupar, will be installed in the Westgalerie throughout the weekend, and on Saturday, Nedd's sound installation for the Terrassensaal, Recuerdos II (Memories II), will open and be installed until October 2024.

Flor Bárcenas Feria is a graduate in literature and an Afro-Caribbean poet. In 2020, she published the collection of poems “Bramidos de agua dulce”, in which the Sinú River a character that carries with it the weight of death and violence against trans women in Montería. She is the winner of the “Jorge García Usta” young poetry award in PoemaRío Barranquilla, and is included in the anthology “Como la flor ” (Like the flower) of contemporary Colombian cuir poetry edited by Planeta de Libros.
Beatriz E. Balanta, PhD, is a cultural critic specializing in the visual manufacturing of racialized and gendered subjects. She earned a PhD from Duke University (2010) and has published essays on the role of photography in transforming enslaved flesh into free citizens in Brazil; female pleasure, psychoanalysis, and feminist politics; performance and protest, and the slippery nature of political speech. Balanta is the founder and executive director of BlackGround, an agency that promotes contemporary art and scholarship from and about the African diaspora.
Edna Martinez is a Colombian DJ and music curator at HKW Berlin. She studied photography at HGB Leipzig and completed curatorial training at UDK Berlin. Internationally recognized for her captivating Champeta rhythms, she takes her audience on a sonic journey from the Caribbean to the Levant. She is also the creative force behind projects such as El Volcán, a series of events in Germany celebrating Colombian-Caribbean picó sound system culture, and LatinArab, a format exploring Arab migration in the Americas and its diaspora. Additionally, Martinez hosts a monthly show on NTS Radio and Radio Alhara.
