Haus der Kunst is where the future happens
Since 2022, we’ve been changing fast. As a global centre for contemporary art without an own collection, Haus der Kunst focuses on working with living artists, drawing new lines in art history by reappraising canons and stereotypes. Based on a transdisciplinary, transnational and transgenerational approach, the shaping vision behind our programme weaves projects into a story that evolves over time, creating a new context in which to understand our increasingly digitalised world.
Within this story, major retrospectives on trailblazing media artists converse across generations with younger artists, constituting an entirely new frame of reference. TUNE, a monthly series of residences, emphasises the role of sound and music in visual art, resonating with the themes of the exhibitions and acting as a lively, polyphonic backbone to the programme, while the annual group show ECHOES engages with emerging artists and their practices.
Haus der Kunst aims to lead on exploring the digital transformation of society and its impact on the arts. Our programme embraces changes in the technological realm and highlights the visionary practices of artists from the recent past in solo and group exhibitions, linking them to the experimentations of the present. Dialogue with the public is established primarily via deep interconnections across projects and via new forms of display that address the body and all of the senses.
With its commitment to community-building, accessibility, and cooperation with like-minded local institutions, Haus der Kunst strives to be a safe hub for exchange and encounter. This manifests in the new, welcoming space of the Mittelhalle, in specially commissioned works, in the monthly event series Open Haus, and in the Super BOOKS and MMMHaus projects. Memory, history, and new narratives are strengthened and shared via annual shows in the Archiv Galerie and addressed critically in monographic exhibitions in the LSK-Galerie.
Haus der Kunst aspires to be an institution with a many-voiced personality, to inspire, stimulate, and serve as a porous, transparent interface with its public mission visible both online and on site, inside and out.
Welcome to Haus der Kunst.
